Brian David Johnson is a renowned futurist, author, and technologist. He is the founding father of the Threatcasting methodology. His pioneering work has significantly influenced how organizations envision and prepare for the future. In 2009, Johnson became Intel Corporation's first-ever futurist, where he developed actionable visions for the future of technology, focusing on a 10-15 year horizon. His approach, known as "futurecasting," combines ethnographic field studies, technology research, trend data, and science fiction to create pragmatic forecasts of consumers and computing.

Beyond his tenure at Intel, Johnson has collaborated with governments, militaries, trade organizations, startups, and multinational corporations, helping them envision and shape their futures. He has over 30 patents and is the author of a number of books of fiction and nonfiction, including Science Fiction Prototyping; Screen Future: The Future of Entertainment, Computing and the Devices We Love; Humanity and the Machine: What Comes After Greed?; Vintage Tomorrows: A Historian and a Futurist Journey through Steampunk into the Future of Technology; and What You Need to Know About AI (2024).

His insights have been featured in publications ranging from The Wall Street Journal and Slate to IEEE Computer and Successful Farming. He appears regularly on Bloomberg TV, PBS, Fox News, and the Discovery Channel, sharing his expertise on future technologies and societal trends.. He has directed two feature films, and is an illustrator and commissioned painter.

Johnson serves as a Professor of Practice at Arizona State University's School for the Future of Innovation in Society and as a Futurist and Fellow at Frost & Sullivan, an innovation company focused on growth.
